Expanding Brain Meme-Vorlage & Generator

What Is the Expanding Brain Meme?

Expanding Brain is a four-panel comparison image. Each panel shows a human head in profile with an increasingly vivid depiction of the brain: a small brain on a dark background, a glowing brain, a brighter brain, and a radiant brain with beams of light. The blank text areas sit to the left of the images. The panels usually rank ideas or choices from ordinary to supposedly more enlightened, often building toward an absurd or ironic final option.

People also search for it as the Galaxy Brain or Expanding Galaxy Brain meme.

Where the Meme Comes From

The template combines several brain images into a vertical progression, with labels added beside each panel. It spread widely online in the mid-2010s, especially on Reddit and other social platforms, where people used the growing glow to suggest rising intelligence, status, or absurdity. The original source of the individual brain illustrations is not consistently established, so the format is best known as an internet image macro rather than as a scene from a specific film or show.

How to Use the Template

The four text boxes run from the top panel to the bottom panel. Put one option or idea in each box, with the last one as the most extreme or unexpected.

1. Basic choice: Start with an ordinary option, such as "Use a paper map".
2. Slight upgrade: Give the next panel a more capable choice, such as "Check the route on my phone".
3. Big-brain option: Make the third idea more elaborate, such as "Memorize every street".
4. Maximum brain: End with the most exaggerated or ridiculous answer, such as "Walk until the city looks familiar".
