What Is the Who Killed Hannibal Meme?

The Who Killed Hannibal meme is a two-panel image from a comedy sketch. In the top panel, a man in a light suit points toward another man slumped on a couch, while smoke hangs in the room. In the bottom panel, the suited man faces forward at a microphone with a serious, awkward expression; the other man remains slumped behind him. The meme is used for suspicious situations, flimsy explanations, and moments when someone seems to be addressing a problem they may have caused.

People also search for it as the Hannibal Buress meme, Who Killed Hannibal meme template, or Hannibal Buress gun meme.

Where the Meme Comes From

The image comes from a sketch on the television comedy series The Eric Andre Show, featuring comedian Hannibal Buress. The scene shows Buress pointing a gun toward a man on a couch before turning to face the camera at a microphone. The sketch spread as a reaction meme online, with the two stills commonly paired to set up a suspicious action followed by an uneasy explanation. The exact timing of its first widespread use is not consistently established, so it is best understood as a meme drawn from the show's recurring surreal comedy.

How to Use the Template

Use the panels in order to set up an action and then deliver the reaction or explanation.

1. Suspicious action: Put the questionable act in the first panel, such as "I borrowed the office stapler".
2. What happened: Name the consequence or evidence, such as "The stapler is missing".
3. Awkward response: Add the excuse or denial for the second panel, such as "I have no idea where it went".
