What Is the Monkey Puppet Meme?

Monkey Puppet is a two-panel image of a reddish-brown monkey puppet with wide eyes. In the first panel, the puppet looks forward; in the second, it glances sideways with an uneasy expression. The meme expresses the awkward pause after saying something uncomfortable, being caught, or wanting to avoid a reaction. The two looks often work as a setup and a quiet, embarrassed response.

Where the Meme Comes From

The image is a still of a monkey puppet from the Japanese children's television show Ōkiku Naru Ko. The puppet appears in a split image, first facing ahead and then looking sideways. The reaction image spread online in the mid-2010s, especially on social media and meme-sharing sites. It became a common format for expressing discomfort or trying not to react, though the precise first post is not widely established.

How to Use the Template

Use the two panels to show a situation and the puppet's awkward response:

1. The setup: Put the comment, event, or uncomfortable situation in the first panel, such as “I said I finished the group project.”
2. The awkward glance: Put the reaction or thought in the second panel, such as “I have not opened the document.”

Keep each line short so it is easy to read alongside the puppet's expression.
