What Is the American Chopper Argument Meme?

The American Chopper Argument meme is a five-panel sequence showing two men arguing in an office. In the first panel, an older man sits in a chair and shouts while pointing across the room. The second shows a younger man in a cap gesturing as he responds. The older man shouts again in the third panel, followed by a wider view of both men gesturing at each other across a desk. In the last panel, the older man points as he continues the argument.

The meme presents a disagreement that escalates through increasingly heated exchanges. It is commonly used to dramatize debates about trivial preferences, conflicting opinions, or everyday annoyances. Each panel works as a new line in the argument, so the captions can build toward a final retort.

People also search for it as the American Chopper argument meme, American Chopper guy arguing, or American Chopper five-panel meme.

Where the Meme Comes From

The images come from the reality television series American Chopper, which follows a motorcycle-building business and the people who work there. The panels show an argument between Paul Teutul Sr. and Paul Teutul Jr. The scene became a meme as a series of reaction images, with captions added to the successive panels to turn the exchange into a staged debate. It spread widely online as a multi-panel format for illustrating arguments, though the exact first post and date of its spread are not firmly established.

How to Use the Template

Use one short line in each panel, moving from the opening claim to the final response:

1. Opening claim: State the first person's opinion, such as “Pineapple belongs on pizza.”
2. First response: Give the opposing view, such as “Fruit does not belong on pizza.”
3. Escalation: Make the argument more emphatic, such as “It is still a topping.”
4. Back-and-forth: Add the exchange or contradiction, such as “It makes the pizza sweet.”
5. Final retort: End with the strongest comeback, such as “So does barbecue sauce.”

Keep each caption concise so the argument reads clearly from panel to panel.
