Gru's Plan Meme Template & Generator

What Is the Gru's Plan Meme?

Gru's Plan is a four-panel image showing Gru standing beside a presentation board. He points to it in the first panel, gestures toward it in the second, presents his plan in the third, then looks confused and turns away in the final panel. The blank board gives each panel room for a line of text. The meme sets up a plan that seems straightforward, then reveals that one step contradicts or undermines the others. Gru's puzzled reaction lands when the flaw becomes clear.

Where the Meme Comes From

The panels come from the animated film Despicable Me 2, in which Gru presents a plan using a board. The scene became a meme template because its four-panel sequence makes it easy to show a plan being laid out and then falling apart. It spread widely online as a reaction and humor format in the late 2010s. The familiar template uses the same four images, with text added to the board in each panel.

How to Use the Template

Add one short caption to each board, following the sequence from top left to bottom right:

1. Step one: introduce the first part of a plan, such as “Save money this month.”
2. Step two: add the next step, such as “Cancel unnecessary subscriptions.”
3. Step three: build toward the intended result, such as “Put the savings aside.”
4. The flaw: reveal the contradiction or unexpected snag, such as “Buy a new gaming PC.”

Keep the first three captions clear enough to make the last one feel like a turn. Each text box sits on the light board in its panel.
