Always Has Been Meme Template & Generator

What Is the Always Has Been Meme?

The image shows Earth in space on the left and two astronauts on the right. One astronaut points a gun at the other, who is looking toward Earth. The meme turns a supposed discovery into a blunt reveal: the thing being questioned or newly noticed has been true all along. The gun-pointing astronaut delivers the punchline, often with the line “Always has been.”

Where the Meme Comes From

The template is a digitally edited image based on a scene of two astronauts looking at Earth. It spread online as a reaction and caption meme around 2020, particularly on social media and meme-sharing forums. The familiar format pairs a claim or question with the second astronaut’s terse answer, “Always has been.” The image’s exact original source is not firmly established, so it is best understood as a widely circulated edited template rather than a still from a known film or show.

How to Use the Template

Use the two text boxes to set up a mistaken assumption and then reveal the truth:

1. Question or discovery: Put the claim the first astronaut is making, such as “Wait, this meeting could have been an email?”
2. Always has been: Give the second astronaut’s answer or the truth that was already there, such as “Always has been.”
